Main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has dismissed as fake a letter crafted to allege that its presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) had agreed to stand down for independent candidate Lt Gen (Rtd) Henry Kakurugu Tumukunde.
The letter claimed Amuriat had agreed to back Tumukunde because of the former security minister’s purported support in the armed forces.
The crafters of the fake letter also sought to deceive the country that a NEC meeting of the FDC had convened at the weekend to discuss the matter.
But FDC quickly dismissed the letter as fake.
“A fake letter dated 11 Jan 2021 and allegedly written by Nathan Nandala Mafabi, which we will not quote here, is circulating on social media,” the party said in a statement.
“Please don’t circulate it further. Also, treat it with the contempt it deserves.”
