Uneb Extends Deadline for Submission of Continuous Assessment Marks for S4 Candidates Sitting New Curriculum Exams

Assessment body Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has announced the deadline for Continuous Assessment (CA) marks or scores as it prepares to begin administering the 2024 examinations for end of primary and secondary education.

Candidates in this year’s cohort completing their O-level education will be the pioneer batch to be examined under the new Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC) which was rolled out about four years ago.

Student achievement under the NLSC is measured by a combination of the scores from final examinations administered by Uneb and the continuous assessment marks awarded by the teachers in schools where the learners are  registered.

The end of O-level (Senior Four) examinations will contribute 80 per cent of the final score for each subject while Continuous Assessment (CA) will carry 20 marks, making 100 per cent of the total achievement for each learner.

“It focuses on the End of Cycle (EoC) assessment conducted by UNEB, which will contribute 80 per cent of the overall achievement by each learner,” explained Uneb executive secretary and director Dan Odongo as he officially released timetables for this year’s national examinations.

“There are also new subjects and assessment modalities coming on board for the first time.”

As such, schools are expected to submit continuous assessment scores to the examinations board via a portal.

According to ED Odongo, schools have only this month to submit the scores. The initial deadline was supposed to be September 30 but Uneb extended it to October 30, 2024.

“Continuous Assessment (CA) scores MUST be submitted to UNEB through the school portal.  The deadline for submission has been extended from 30th September to 30th October, 2024 to give ample time to schools to compile and submit the scores on the portal,” announced Odongo.

He also noted that the display of candidates’ registers as mandated by the UNEB Act 2021, should continue up to October 10, 2024. The Act requires examination centers to display candidates’ lists 60 days before the start of national exams.
