UPDATE: Museveni Government Breaks Silence on Arrest of Media Center Boss by CMI Operatives

Obed Katureebe, a public affairs officer at the Uganda Media Center, is in the hands of security operatives, his boss and Museveni government’s spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has confirmed.

Obed Katureebe

Opondo, who heads the Media Center, did not say which security agency was holding Katureebe but reports had claimed that the public relations officer was in the hands of Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).

Available reports indicate that suspected CMI operatives picked Katureebe from his home in Kyanja on May 01.

His family members have since been unable to access him.

But security operatives have told the government spokesperson (Opondo) that Katureebe is safe.

“Obed is under security protection because of threats allegedly against his person details of which I am yet to be provided with,” said Opondo.

“I have been assured that he’s safe and not under arrest.”

Opondo added: “I can confidently state that Obed Katureebe’s matter is being handled appropriately and professionally with those concerned. I will update the media when necessary.”
