Police has confirmed the arrest of two people in connection with a fire outbreak at the Ministry of Agriculture stores located along Buganda Road in Kampala on April 03.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the cause of the fire, which broke out at about 11am, was “still unknown.”
But police suspects the fire could have originated from rubbish which was being burnt.
“Our fire prevention and rescue services responded at the scene on time and are currently dealing with the situation,” said Owoyesigyire.
“Preliminary information gathered by the officers indicates that the storekeepers always burn rubbish every Sunday and it is suspected the wind could have blown the fire inside the store since the burning point is close to the stores.”
Owoyesigyire has confirmed the arrest of two people whom he said would aid in the investigation into the fire outbreak.
He identified the arrested as Jerry Ajambo and Eunice Namusimbi.
Both Ajambo and Namusimbi are cleaners at the store.
