President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has told speaker Anita Annet Among and her deputy Thomas Tayebwa as well as Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo that the wigs they wear are embarrassing and should be reserved for mad people.
On March 25, 2022, Museveni spoke at Kololo after MPs elected a new speaker and deputy speaker.
Anita Among was elected speaker, replacing the late Jacob Oulanyah. (Read Story Here).
MPs also elected Thomas Tayebwa the deputy speaker. (Read Story Here).
In his remarks after Among and Tayebwa took oaths of office, Museveni condemned the wearing of wigs, saying they should be reserved for mad people.
He asked the new speakers to change from wearing wigs.
“You see the wigs they are putting on. Wigs! Why are you putting on wigs? I was a Speaker but never put on the wig. I’m not mad. In Tanzania, they have changed, they don’t put on wigs,” said Museveni.
“This is what happens we adopt many things from elsewhere. Imagine these wigs the Speakers put on. I feel embarrassed when I see the Chief Justice and Speaker putting on wigs. Why do we copy these things? I was a speaker myself by the way and I never put on that wig.”
