Alliou Cisse Appointed Libya’s National Team Head Coach

The Libyan Football Federation has appointed former Senegalese international Alliou Cisse as the head coach of the men’s team.

Cissé was the head coach of the Senegal national team until 2023 and won the Africa Cup of Nations trophy, a victory that established him as one of Africa’s premier coaching talents.

The federation’s statement announced that Cisse, 48, will be officially presented to the media on March 13 in Tripoli and will lead Libya until 2027, signaling a new chapter for the team.

Cisse succeeds Nasser Al-Hadhiri, who managed libya Men’s team since September 2024.

Libya has failed to qualify for the upcoming AFCON tournament in Morocco this year. However, the team is currently in second place in their World Cup qualifying group and is set to face Angola later this month as they aim to secure their spot in the next round of qualifications.

Cissé led the Senegal national team to notable achievements, winning the Africa Cup, qualifying for the World Cup, and reaching the Round of 16.

Cissé began his football career in France before moving to English clubs Birmingham City and Portsmouth. He played primarily as a defensive midfielder but also occasionally took on the role of centre-back.
