Bobi Wine brother Nyanzi Kampala Central vote recount quest collapses; Muhammad Nsereko victory upheld

Mengo Magistrate’s Court on January 28 dismissed an application in which Fred Ssentamu Nyanzi, a brother to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, challenging the election of Muhammad Nsereko as Kampala Central MP.

Nyanzi, who came second in the race according to Electoral Commission (EC) results, had sought court orders for a recount in particular polling stations.

He had alleged that presiding officers had thrown his agents from some polling stations.

Nyanzi had also accused Nsereko and his agents of forging declaration of results forms.

But court punched holes in Nyanzi’s claims, citing lack of evidence.

Magistrate Esther Nansambu told off Nyanzi for basing his application on rumors.

She dismissed the application with costs.

Nsereko remains the only non-NUP leaning politician elected as MP in the capital Kampala.
