Bobi Wine Fires Us NUP Eastern Uganda Mobilizers to Use 2026 Elections to Send Museveni into Retirement

Main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has used rallied party leaders, members and mobilizers to organize better and use the 2026 general election to send long serving president Yoweri Museveni into retirement.

Bobi Wine, whose NUP party eclipsed the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in the 2021 election, is hoping to give Museveni and his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) a run for his money in the 2026 election at all levels: presidential, parliamentary, local council and special interest group elections.

In Eastern Uganda, Bobi Wine led his party’s leaders to call on mobilizers to get ready to spread the liberation gospel in the districts and region so as to secure victory for the National Unity Platform in next year’s elections.

On April 14, Bobi Wine and top party leaders attended the NUP Democracy Resilience Training of District and Constituency leaders for Eastern Uganda.

Conducted in Mbale City, the training was attended by party members, structure leaders and intending flag bearers from about 40 districts of Eastern Uganda’s sub regions of Busoga, Bugisu, Teso, Bukedi and Sebei.

During the training, leaders were urged to undertake efforts aimed at “mobilizing for our liberation cause as the electoral season heats up,” the party said after the meeting.

Party officials also welcomed people who defected from Museveni’s NRM and joined NUP, promising to mobilize for the “revolutionary party.”

“This engagement was aimed at training and launching these teams to go on ground and mobilise, organise and agitate for the revolution. We charged them to be resilient in the face of so much intimidation,” Bobi Wine said after the training.

“Driven by hope, we shall get there! Very energised by their enthusiasm and passion.”

It should be remembered that a recent poll indicated that Bobi Wine was more popular than Museveni ahead of 2026 elections, and even a top Museveni government official has predicted that NRM and Museveni are likely to lose ground in next year’s elections if they don’t change their strategy, as reported Here and There.
