BREAKING: Abbas Byakagaba Appointed IGP

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has appointed AIGP Abbas Byakagaba the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).

IGP Abbas Byakagaba will replace Martins Okoth Ochola who retired after decades of police service.

A State House official has confirmed Byakagaba’s appointment to the top job at Uganda Police Force (UPF).

“I confirm that H.E. the President and Commander in Chief of the UPDF has today appointed Mr. Abbas Byakagaba as the new Inspector General of Police replacing IGP Martin Okoth Ochola,” noted deputy presidential press secretary Faruk Kirunda.

“Other changes have been effected in the Uganda Police Force.”

Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime, the outgoing deputy IGP, has been holding fort as the acting police chief following Ochola’s exit.

Abbas Byakagaba had recently retired from police but Museveni has now recalled him from retirement to head the police force.

On May 07, Abbas Byakagaba handed over office to SCP Frank Mwesigye, the deputy Director of the Directorate of Counter Terrorism.

AIGP James Ochaya will now become the new deputy IGP.

Deputy IGP James Ochaya will replace Maj Gen Katsigazi Tumusiime.
