Dr Warren Tumwine beats Ingrid Turinawe, Rolland Mugume in Rukungiri Municipality FDC election

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) strong woman Ingrid Turinawe and MP Rolland Kaginda Mugume have lost a party election for Rukungiri Municipality 2021 parliamentary flag bearer.

Turinawe and Mugume lost to Dr Warren Katoora Tumwine.

Dr Tumwine polled 130 ahead of Turinawe who garnered 65, and Mugume who managed 62.

The other aspirants — Benon Rwenzigye,
Herbert Mbabazi Kawawa, and
Francis Musimire failed to get even one vote.

Dr Tumwine secured a comfortable win, doubling his closest Challenger Turinawe, and would still win had all his rivals combined all their votes.

Results for Rukungiri Municipality MP Primaries

  • Ingrid Turinawe: 65
  • Rolland Mugume Kaginda : 62
  • Benon Rwenzigye: 00
  • Herbert Mbabazi Kawawa: 00
  • Francis Musimire: 00

A dedicated defiance queen close to main opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, Turinawe has been unlucky in her pursuit of a pariamentary seat.

She has failed in party primaries before, and also lost to secure a seat in the regional parliament East African Legislative Assembly (Eala).

As for Mugume, he joins other FDC MPs like Busongoro South MP Jackson Mbaju Kathika who have lost party primaries.

Mbaju lost to Alozious Baguma Kighima who polled 258 against the incumbent’s 245.

Mugume is yet to declare if he will back Tumwine, or run as an independent like Mbaju has decided, citing voter bribery.
