Air transport regulator Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has given details of a fire outbreak incident that happened at the Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
UCAA said the incident was “minor.”
The fire reportedly began in th ceiling of the passenger Terminal Building at Entebbe International Airport – in the Departures area.
There was smoke in the Passenger Waiting Lounges near gate 2A and 2B.
“Passengers and all the other users of Entebbe International Airport were immediately evacuated as the UCAA Rescue and Fire-fighting Services team handled the situation,” explained UCAA.
It took about 45 minutes to put out the fire and return operations to normal.
The fire, which was reported at about 3pm in the afternoon, had been put out by 3:45pm.
“Passenger operations have since resumed,” noted UCAA.
The aviation regulator added: “The incident did not lead to any casualties.”
The authority has also started a probe into the cause of the fire.
“The source and cause of the fire is being investigated,” said UCAA.
“Inconveniences caused by the incident to the departing passengers and other users of Entebbe International Airport are highly regretted.”
