Gen Kayihura being unveiled as member of Ibanda University governing council
Former Uganda Police Force (UPF) chief Gen Kale Kayihura has been appointed on the governing council of Ibanda University.
Ibanda University inaugurated its new Governing Council in a ceremony that took place on Monday, May 19, 2025 at AK Gardens Hotel in Ibanda Town.
The new team (governing council) is expected to lead the institution for the next four years.
Kayihura is the new Chairperson of the Council’s Planning and Development Committee.
“Gen Kayihura joins the council with extensive experience in national leadership, security, and strategic planning,” Ibanda University spokesperson Lawrence Mucunguzi said.
“His role as Chairperson of the Planning and Development Committee will see him lead initiatives that shape the university’s physical and academic expansion, including infrastructure development, innovation hubs, and future academic programs.”
Dr Clementia Mureembe Neema will chair the new Governing Council. Dr Mureembe was re-elected for another term in recognition of her outstanding leadership and service.
Apart from Gen Kayihura and Dr Mureembe, other members of the council, comprising prominent individuals from academia, public service, and cultural institutions, include Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama, the National Deputy Coordinator, Parish Development Model (PDM) and Jude Mike Mudoma Umukuuka III of Bugisu.
Others are Prof Peter Kanyandago, Dr Imelda Kemeza, Prof Samson James Opolot, Elly Atuhereze Katsigaire, Assoc Prof Fredrick R. Tumwine, Gerald Agaba, Dr Enoch Asiimwe, Sr Agnes Agaba, Brian Nayebare and Gerevazio Ahimbisibwe.
While addressing the new governing council, Dr John Busingye, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Ibanda University, congratulated the new Council members and thanked the outgoing team for their dedicated service.
“We are confident that the collective expertise of this new Governing Council under the capable leadership of Dr Mureembe and with Gen Kayihura guiding our planning efforts will greatly enhance the university’s vision of becoming a center of academic excellence and innovation,” said Dr Busingye.
