Education Minister Janet Museveni
Nearly 1,200 Ugandan teachers have been confirmed as education officers and assistant education officers under the Ministry of Education and Sports and included on the Ministry of Public Service payroll.
The Education Service Commission (ESC), the body charged with hiring teachers under First Lady Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi’s Ministry of Education and Sports, has released the names of those whose confirmation letters are ready to be picked.
The list also included non-teaching staff such as library assistants, laboratory assistants, stenographers, enrolled nurses, and accountants who have been posted to different secondary schools across the country.
According to Mohammed Kaaya, the acting secretary of the Education Service Commission (ESC), more lists of confirmed teaching and non-teaching staff are in the pipeline and will soon be released.
The staff who have made it to this list of confirmed government employees are expected to go to the Ministry of Education and Sports so that they can be issued with confirmation letters.
“The Secretary, Education Service Commission informs teaching and non-teaching personnel whose names appear in the lists below that they have been confirmed in appointments. The concerned people are requested to contact the Ministry of Education and Sports for issuance of confirmation letters,” said Kaaya.
“Be also informed that more cases are being worked upon and the names will be released when ready.”
It should be remembered that weeks ago, the Education Service Commission released the list of 3,000 teachers who passed interviews and were given government payroll jobs. (See their Names HERE).
The nearly 1,200 teachers whose appointments have been confirmed belong to this batch. However, as we previously reported, a number of these appointed teachers could have paid between Shs2m and Shs5m to Education Service Commission (ESC) officials to be included on the list of successful candidates even when they had not passed interviews. This means that a number of those who had passed the interviews did not appear on the list because they could not pay bribes to ESC officials. (Read Story Here).
Nevertheless, those whose appointment has been confirmed will soon start earning government salaries. (See New Government Salary Structure for the 2022-2023 Financial Year Here).
