Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has warned peaceful demonstrations declared by Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine may end in bloodshed.
On Tuesday, Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, who lost to incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni in the January 14 election, declared countrywide peaceful protests.
But acting national coordinator of ANT, Alice Alaso, has warned that although NUP has a right to make decisions as an institution, Bobi Wine’s plan could end in tears and blood.
Alaso explained that she would not trust the Museveni government to do the right thing in the face of protests.
“NUP is entitled to its approach because even constitutionally, people have a right to a peaceful demonstration but we can hope and only hope that Government will take in the divergent views with calm,” Alaso told a local television station on March 10.
“We are caught up in a democracy which is a dictatorship because you don’t know how much democracy you can exercise here as a citizen without it ending in bloodshed and death. Ugandans know what they want but for some reason, they fear to go for it. I don’t know what they are scared of.”
