Rwenzori East police have in their custody a man who allegedly cut off his wife’s hands.
The act which happened on the night of March 20 arose from domestic violence in which the suspect has been accusing his wife of cheating on him.
The victim is a market vendor in Sauliyako Market in Kasese town.
The Rwenzori East Police community liaison officer SP Luke Mbusa confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Hassan Kadogo Ngobi.
Mbusa identified the victim, who is still nursing wounds at Mt St Mary’s Hospital in Kasese as Esther Mbambu.
Both Kadogo and Mbambu are residents of Nyakasonjo Lower, Bulembia Division in Kasese Municipality.
Justin Mulhuba, who is taking of Mbambu in hospital, said she found her in a pool of blood and helpless along her home with her bag containing money and phone.
“Doctors have tried everything but the situation is worrying,” said Mulhuba.
The administrator of Mt St Marys’ Hospital, Sister Suzan Kabugho, said the victim was received at the facility at around 11 pm. Kabugho added that Mbambu also has wounds on her head and other body parts.
SP Mbusa condemned the act and appealed to the public to always reach out to police whenever they fail to resolve a misunderstanding. “People should always report family matters to police for assistance,” he emphasized.
This is the second such incident within this week after a retired police officer identified as Sipiriano Kyakwaire, 65, was taken into custody for reportedly attacking and fatally stabbing his 50-year-old wife Night Masika at their home in Kakone I village of Nyakiyumbu sub-county on March 17, 2025.
