It’s God, not Tribe! Barbie Kyagulanyi’s Touching Speech Condemning Tribalism

Barbie Kyagulanyi Itungo, wife to main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, delivered an inspiring speech condemning tribalism in Uganda.

Barbie Kyagulanyi was guest speaker at Rubaga Cathedral during a mass to observe Mother’s Day.

She was in company of her husband Bobi Wine who later said he was filled with pride and honor as he watched Barbie “emphasize the role of mothers in raising upright, God-fearing children.”

Bobi Wine was also pleased that Barbie Kyagulanyi had offered him some time to pray for remanded bodyguard Edward Ssebuuufu popularly known as Eddie Mutwe and other political prisoners, as well as to encourage unwedded couples “to make things official.”

In Barbie Kyagulanyi’s address, she condemned tribal jokes, and urged mothers and fathers to correct stereotypes on dinner tables.

Barbie Kyagulanyi also emphasized the need to remember that it is God, and not tribes, which give people identity.

She preached unity among Ugandans regardless of tribe. She condemned divisions based on tribes, noting that a divided house cannot stand.

Two weeks ago, first son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba claimed that he was holding Eddie Mutwe in his basement teaching him Runyankore.

The statement was treated as an act of tribalism, attracting condemnation.

Eddie Mutwe has been narrating the torture he went through in detention before he was arraigned at a court in Masaka where he was charged with robbery.

Eddie Mutwe says they injected him with a strange drug, squeezed his pr!v@te p@rts. After visiting him in prison, Bobi Wine said Eddie Mutwe was rotting away. (See Details Here, There and Over There).

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine has written to Banyankore and Bakiga elders telling them to speak against Muhoozi before it is too late. (Read Bobi Wine’s full letter Here).
