That’s Robbery in Jesus’ Name: Zac Niringiye Trashes Apostle Grace Lubega’s Shs200bn Mega Church Project to be Funded by Followers

Former assistant Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kampala Dr Zac Niringiye has trashed Apostle Grace Lubega’s Phaneroo Ministries $55m mega church project that will be fully funded by followers, calling it robbery in Jesus’ name.

Apostle Grace Lubega recently announced Phaneroo Ministries’ mega building project that will cost $55m, approximately Shs200bn.

Lubega, one of Kampala’s most famous Pentecostal preachers, said he would not borrow to finance the problem but was hoping God would open doors for followers willing to donate to the building of the House of the Almighty God.

“We are planning to build a US $55m building and I am not borrowing. I am Abraham’s son. Oh, I mean it,” Apostle Grace Lubega told his Phaneroo Ministries congregation.

“Between now and how it will manifest, I know there is a young man in the ministry saying, ‘God, I wanna give a million dollars a month. He doesn’t have a job but he has the heart, that’s the one I am looking for because I know people who have the money but do not have the heart [to give].”

Ugandans online have be reacting to the recording of the announcement for the $55m church project.

Some like Daily Monitor writer Gabriel Buule observed that “it’s funny that we can come together as Christians to contribute money and build a $55m church but not a hospital, factory, or school.”

But retired assistant Bishop Dr Zac Niringiye, a man known for his outspokenness on issues of justice, came out hitting hard as he trashed Apostle Grace Lubega’s church project as “robbery in Jesus’ name.”

Dr Niringiye also pitied the followers whom he described as “gullible” as he called out Lubega for allegedly turning a blind eye as poverty and a sick healthcare system make lives more miserable for Ugandans.

“I have other words to call this: it’s robbery in Jesus name!! What’s even more disturbing and disheartening, the congregation is clapping! Gullibility in Jesus name! It’s so painful,” opined Dr Niringiye.

“Meanwhile, no word about poverty, the sprawling slums of Kampala; beggars & begging families on Kampala’s streets; a collapsed public healthcare system!”

But Apostle Grace Lubega’s followers have dismissed comments by Niringiye and other as attacks targeted at Phaneroo Ministries and Balokole churches, reasoning that such critics do not come out when other Christian denominations also undertake multi-billion projects.

Some Apostle Grace Lubega Followers Have Fired Back at Zac Niringiye and Other Ugandans Criticizing $55m Church Project, Telling Them, ‘YOU’RE LIKE JUDAS ISCARIOT.’ See Details Here.

Apostle Grace Lubega was previously on the spot for linking Baganda Names Ndawula, Nandawula to Spirits of Sudden Diseases and Death. (See Details HERE).

Meanwhile, the number of Balokole in Uganda increased over the past 10 years as the percentage of Anglicans and Catholics reduced, according to 2024 census results. (See Details on Uganda’s most popular religions Here).
