Police have today afternoon recovered two dead bodies along Nakivubo Channel at Clock Tower near Total fuel station, after a downpour. According to the kampala metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the two bodies were carried by flood water from different places.
The first body to be retrieved is of female juvenile aged 12 years, identified as Namazzi Alyera, a resident of Nsambya Kitooro, Makindye Division, Kampala Capital City. It is alleged that Namazzi was playing with her friends during the rain and their ball fell in the trench.
She tried to remove the ball, but the water overpowered her and swept her away. Her body was swept up to Clock Tower, where a boda boda rider saw it and informed the police and the body was then retrieved.
While still carrying on their work, police also discovered another body which appeared on top of the running water in the channel and it was also removed. The body was not identified but it is of a male adult.
“We appeal to members of the public to be very cautious during this rainy season.” Said Onyango.
The floods have on several occasions affected Kampala city, causing difficulties in businesses and transport. This is due to the heavy rains that the area receives on a daily basis.
