Bobi Wine NUP MPs Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana summoned by Masaka Police over Greater Masaka killings involvement
Police in Masaka has summoned National Unity Platform (NUP) MPs, Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North, and Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West, to record statements for reportedly taking part in the killings by machete-wielding assailants (bijambiya) in the Greater Masaka Area.
At least 26 people have lost their lives in the Masaka killings in recent weeks.
“The directorate of criminal investigations is investigating some murders that took place in Greater Masaka in the months of July and August 2021. This serves as summons for you to appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday 6th September, 2021, at 10:00hrs before deputy D/SSP Moses Taremwa for a statement on the said investigations,” Paul Katto Tumuhimbise, acting on behalf of the director of criminal investigations at Uganda Police Force.
The summons to Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana come days after information minister Chris Baryomunsi linked the Masaka killings to politicians.
“What seems to come out is that these people are being used by some politicians to create fear among the population,” said Baryomunsi.
“They want to cause fear among the people so that the population can say that the NRM government has failed to protect them.”
