First son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has asked his father, President Yoweri Museveni, to allow UPDF take over Kampala. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says the national army will help fix infrastructure in the capital city.
CDF since March 2024, Gen Muhoozi says they were “sorting out UPDF,” and that “soon it will be amongst the best on earth.” He says fixing Kampala’s potholed roads is a task the UPDF can undertake. He says he will soon formally request President Museveni to place Kampala under the UPDF.
With such a takeover, Gen Muhoozi says he would fight corrupt officials that have hindered the city’s development.
“My biggest problem now is the crumbling road infrastructure in Kampala. If things are not sorted out quickly, I will ask Mzee to put the whole of Kampala under UPDF!” he wrote.
“All the great work our Engineers have done in Kampala was on a very small budget. This was inspite of the Commander-in-Chief’s directives. Now, I shall ask him to give us FULL control of Kampala. I think Ugandans know if there is anybody in this country who can fight thieves it’s me.”
He has since asked Ugandans to send him the names of “all main roads in Kampala that need to be repaired” as soon as possible, and “Godwilling, we shall work on as many of them as possible.”
Muhoozi’s renewed interest in Kampala’s roads comes days after Museveni appointed another woman as the Executive Director of KCCA. (See more about the new KCCA Director Here and There).
Gen Muhoozi has also vowed to fight corruption, the latest vow being to avenge for the death of a UPDF engineer who blamed his supervisor of corruption in a note to the CDF before he took his life. Gen Muhoozi has also promised to arrest some top generals hiding behind his father. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
