Museveni Donates Shs100m to Mbale Prostitutes SACCO

At the urging of his minister, Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni donates Shs100m to Mbale Prostitutes SACCO.

The Shs100m is expected to help the Mbale Prostitutes Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) members develop themselves, with the view that some may find other sources of income as opposed to engaging in prostitution.

Justin Kasule Lumumba, the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), made a case for the Mbale Prostitutes SACCO during Museveni wealth creation tour in the sub region of Bugisu in Eastern Uganda.

Lumumba said the prostitutes were mainly youths who had made customers and needed to be helped.

Minister Lumumba told the president that the prostitutes in Mbale had organized themselves and formed a SACCO and would benefit from a donation of about Shs100m to boost it.

After all, Lumumba (a former secretary general of the ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM – party), added, some of the donations by President Museveni have been going to ghost savings and credit cooperative organisations and societies.

Meanwhile, at the Bugisu Youth Symposium, President Museveni emphasised the NRM’s commitment to capacity building, wealth, and job creation, highlighting the success stories of youth who have thrived through the Hub skilling program by creating finished products and adding value.

“The larger goal is clear: if we can achieve success through the relatively expensive skilling hubs, imagine the progress we could make if our leaders had prioritised free education for all children (Bonna Basome). I urge the youth to support me in this important endeavour,” he wrote after the tour.

Some Ugandan prostitutes have previously decried competition in the market, saying foreigners were taking over their customers. (See Details Here and Here).
