The Electoral Commission (EC) has declined to nominated independent aspirant Nancy Kalembe as a 2021 presidential election for failure to pay Shs20m nomination fee.
EC chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama told Kalembe she would only be cleared once she has presented proof of payment of the nomination fee.
“We have discovered that you have not yet paid a fee of Shs20m. As a result, we are not able to nominate you because you have not fully complied with the requirements for a presidential candidate,” Byabakama told Kalembe at the Kyambogo nomination centre.
Minutes later, Kalembe promised to fulfill the requirement she fell short of by close of nominations on November 03.
“There was delayed payment somewhere. For that I take fully responsibility,” she said.
Kalembe becomes the second aspirant to miss out on nomination on the first day of the exercise after John Katumba.
