Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has undergone a major leadership overhaul, with a raft of new appointments announced at the top level as the power distributor seeks to reset its operations and improve service delivery.
The changes follow closely on the heels of a dramatic shift in leadership, where managing director Paul Mwesigwa was sent on forced leave.
He was subsequently replaced in an acting capacity by Joselynne Rwabwogo Rwakakooko, who has now moved swiftly to reorganize the company’s management structure.
In a letter dated May 6, 2026, Rwakakooko unveiled eight new appointments to key positions, all on an acting basis. The duration of their tenure has not yet been defined, signaling what appears to be a transitional phase within the organization.
Expressing optimism about the new team, Rwakakooko said the appointments are aimed at strengthening UEDCL’s ability to meet its core mandate. She emphasized the need for a united effort to ensure the delivery of dependable, cost-effective, and sustainable electricity to support Uganda’s broader economic transformation agenda.
The reshuffle places Sylver Hategekimana in charge of engineering and technical services in an acting capacity, while Isaac Katewanga steps into the role of Chief Commercial Officer. Samuel Omoding has been assigned to oversee human resources and administration.
Further changes see Stephen Ilungole taking charge of corporate and stakeholder affairs, Nickson Ahabwe heading internal audit, and Richard Opio managing technology and applications—all in acting roles.
At the operational level, Francis Ddamulira has been tasked with handling applications as acting manager, while Christine Atuhairwe assumes responsibility for human resource business partnerships.
The sweeping reorganization highlights a critical moment for UEDCL, as the company attempts to stabilize its leadership and chart a new course aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and nationwide electricity distribution.

Meanwhile, Ugandans have expressed mixed reactions on the appointment of Rwakakooko, a relative of first lady Janet Museveni, as to whether she got the top UEDCL job because of her qualifications or first family connections. (See Details Here).
