Ray G Wants Ugandans to Raise Shs1bn for Jose Chameleone Ahead of ‘Legend’s Homecoming’

Ugandan singer Reagan Muhairwe, popularly known as Ray G, has urged Ugandans to raise up to Shs1bn to thank fellow musician Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone.

Ray G says the money raised should be given to Jose Chameleone as he returns to the country after spending a few months receiving treatment abroad.

One of Uganda’s biggest singers of his generation — some of the others being politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, and Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool — Jose Chameleone is a controversial musician, especially because of his political flipflopping.

From being associated with the Democratic Party (DP) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), Jose Chameleone is a favorite for some but other may not like him because of his political ideas.

So, by calling on Ugandans to collect money for Jose Chameleone, Ray G could be courting controversy.

Nevertheless, Ray G says Jose Chameleone has been instrumental in the country’s music industry and should be appreciated.

“The Ugandan music industry thrives today because he sparked the fire! He carries the Uganda flag on every stage. He is coming home soon,” wrote Ray G.

“Let’s give back to him with overwhelming love by raising UGX 1 billion for Jose Chameleone.”

He says he needs just Shs1000 from one million fans to raise the amount.

For his fundraising idea, Ray G sought the attention of President Yoweri Museveni, his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa.

He also sought the help of singers Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool as well as presidential advisor Edrisah Musuuza aka Eddy Kenzo.

He also sought the attention of brands like MTN Uganda, Airtel Uganda, and Pepsi.

Singer Chameleone is 46 year old. He is also the proprietor of Leonel Island Music Empire Studio. He sings in Luganda, a popular Ugandan language, Kiswahili and English.

Months ago, Jose Chameleone spent time in hospital in Kampala before he was flown abroad for better treatment. His son came out to speak out, revealing the real cause of his father’s health problems, and other secrets on why his mother divorced Chameleone. (See Details Here, There and Over There).

Meanwhile, a self-styled prophet predicted Jose Chameleone’s sickness and said there would be other disasters in the Mayanja family. (See Details Here).
