Speaker of Parliament aspirant Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has intensified attacks against opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) MPs supporting Rebecca Kadaga, with the latest criticism going to Buhweju legislator Francis Mwijukye.
Mwijukye is supporting Speaker Kadaga’s reelection for a third term.
Kadaga will have to beat off competition from his deputy Jacob Oulanyah (also of the ruling NRM), Ssemujju Nganda of the FDC and Richard Ssebamala of the Democratic Party (DP).
In the 2016 race, Ssemujju backed Kadaga.
Now, the Kira Municipality MP and opposition chief whip in Parliament, says he is disappointed with opposition MPs backing Kadaga.
He says these legislators are “lost sheep.”
Ssemujju Nganda has singled out Mwijukye, a former aide to opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye.
When he appeared for NTV Uganda’s Thursday night show On the Spot, Ssemujju wondered why Mwijukye was now looking at Kadaga as an angel yet she had frustrated his appointment as a commissioner of Parliament.
“As Chief Whip of the Opposition, I nominated Francis Mwijukye to serve on the Parliamentary Commission. Madam Kadaga sat on his appointment for 6 months,” said Ssemujju Nganda.
“Today, Mwijukye says Kadaga is an angel. What kind of hypocrisy is this?”
Ssemujju Nganda also took a swipe at Kadaga for disrespecting Oulanyah.
“If you can treat the Deputy Speaker, the second in command, fourth in the country in the way Kadaga has treated Honorable Oulanyah, you think the ordinary MPs will not fear?” he wondered.
