The Government of the Republic of Sudan is demanding an apology from President Yoweri Museveni’s Ugandan Government over social media posts by first son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, The Pearl Times has learnt.
The Office of Spokesperson and Media Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Republic of the Sudan says that Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Museveni, posted “reckless and irresponsible remarks” on microblogging platform X, which included “threatening to capture Khartoum as soon as U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office.”
See Muhoozi’s controversial posts Here.
Khartoum says the remarks are disrespectful and an act of indiscipline on the part of the poster.
“This unprecedented and deviant utterance displays an incredible level of disrespect for international law, the ethos of interstate relations, and the principles of mutual respect between sisterly and friendly nations,” read in part a statement seen by The Pearl Times and attributed to Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“It further constitutes a complete departure from the accepted code of conduct expected of holders of high official and military positions, who are required to exhibit reason, discipline, and careful choice of language in their behavior.”
Noting that posts “threatening war, violating national sovereignty, or defying the United Nations Charter, the African Union’s Constitutive Act, and international law are far too serious to be trivialized or used as a means for seeking attention or sensationalism,” Khartoum has made calls on Kampala and the international community to rein in Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
“The Government of Sudan, therefore, demands an official apology from the Government of Uganda for these offensive and dangerous remarks,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
“It equally calls on the African Union, regional and international organizations, and the entire international community to condemn these statements, which pose a clear threat to regional and international peace and security and insult the dignity of Africans.”
President Museveni previously apologized to Kenyans and their president after his son Muhoozi threatened to attack Nairobi. As The Pearl Times reported, Recently, the first son also threatened to throw the US ambassador out of Uganda for undermining his father Museveni. (See Details Here and There).
Muhoozi has continued making controversial statements. Museveni’s son has threatened to arrest Lt Gen Peter Elwelu for hiding behind his father. He has also said he supports the idea of his mother succeeding Museveni to become Uganda’s first female president. (Read Stories Here and There).
