TELL US WHERE YOU PICKED YOUR SHS100M FROM: Hamson Obua Turns Guns on Muwanga Kivumbi

In an interesting twist, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua has tasked those making allegations of Shs100m given to each MP, including Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi, to provide proof of receipt of such money.

Muwanga Kivumbi, who was holding the fort for Joel Ssenyonyi as acting leader of opposition in parliament, had asked presiding Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa to clarify on reports of the Easter cash bonanza that would be classified as a bribe.

The money was reportedly given to the MPs as a ‘thank you’ for passing the controversial coffee bill. There are other claims that the money is meant to make the MPs pass another controversial bill for the trial of civilians in military courts.

Reacting to the question raised by Kivumbi, Obua said that the processes of paying MPs are well known and that those who are making the allegations should prove.

Obua said that Kivumbi should come up and explain where he received the money from. He added that since Kivumbi claimed that the MPs had received the money and he himself was also an MP, it would be important for him to tell others where he picked his share.

According to reports, the money was picked from different offices, with members of the opposition picking theirs from a place different from where the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs picked theirs.
