There was drama as Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze stormed out of a meeting main opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP) had called to pick a candidate for the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus chairman.
Nambooze had expressed interest in becoming the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus chairperson.
Others who had expressed interest in the position include Aloysius Matovu of Rubaga South and Lukyamuzi Kalwanga of Bussunju.
Nambooze arrived late for the meeting but complained of lack of transparency in the election exercise to pick a party flag bearer.
She claimed Muwanga Kivumbi was a candidate yet in charge of the exercise to choose NUP candidate.
Nambooze further complained that there was no clarity on who should vote in the NUP primary.
In the end, Lukyamuzi Kalwanga and Matovu stepped down for Muwanga Kivumbi.
NUP has 55 of the 102 votes (MPs) in Buganda.
Kivumbi will face Buikwe MP Dr Lulume Bayiga of the Democratic Party (DP).
It should be remembered that Nambooze was appointed the chairperson of government assurances Committee of Parliament, while Kivumbi was unlucky to land such a position in opposition leadership in Parliament.
Buganda MPs will vote their leaders on June 23.
