Senior presidential press secretary Don Wanyama has advised supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to reserve their insults against incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni for ballot papers on January 14.
Uganda heads to elections on January 14, and Museveni is seeking to extend his rule to four decades.
One of his opponents is Bobi Wine, a singer-turned-politician.
Museveni and his NRM accuse Bobi Wine and his supporters of resorting to insults and intimidation due to an alleged lack of ideology and a plan for Uganda with which to convince Ugandans to vote the youthful Kyadondo East MP.
Now, eight days to voting, Museveni’s senior press secretary has assured the president’s supporters of victory, and urged NUP supporters to insult the 76-year-old as much as they wish by writing whatever they want on the ballot papers.
“Home stretch. Thing is in the bag already. Just make sure you tick the last box on the ballot. The NUP chaps, feel free to write your insults on the ballot paper. The EC will read them,” wrote Wanyama.
He further told NUP trolls to “abuse Mzee thoroughly on the ballot paper” because “we want to read the insults.”
