GAKYALI MABAGA! Winnie Byanyima Reacts after Muhoozi Revealed Besigye Hanging Date in Gulu

Winnie Byanyima, wife to Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, has spoken out after Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, president Yoweri Museveni’s son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), announced that the veteran Museveni critic will be hanged in the norther Uganda city of Gulu.

Also the UNAIDS Executive Director, Winnie Byanyima has expressed concern that the CDF and first son was already condemning her husband Besigye to hanging even before the courts hear his case.

In her view, the cases of treachery, illegal possession of firearms and undermining national security against Besigye and his aide Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya are politically motivated.

“The head of the army and president [Yoweri Museveni]‘s son has condemned [Dr Kizza Besigye] to death by hanging and set a date and venue to hang him (as he celebrates I suppose) before he is heard,” noted Byanyima.

She went on to argue that it was not expected for Besigye and Lutale to get justice in the courts where Museveni and his son Muhoozi as Commander-in-Chief of armed forces, and Chief of Defence Forces, respectively, were in charge.

“The charges against [Besigye] and Obeid Lutaale are political. President Museveni and his son run the army. The military court falls under them. Father and son are the accusers and the judges in the case against my husband,” wrote Winnie Byanyima.

Winnie Byanyima said she was ready to attend her husband’s hanging to bury him as an African hero.

The hanging of Besigye, if it ever happens, continued Byanyima, would not stop the fight for justice, and thus, “Gakyali Mabaga,” meaning there is a lot more to be done in the struggle.

“I do not expect justice. I will watch this travesty of justice at the sham military court and I will attend the hanging you have planned,” she said.

“When you are done, I will honour and bury a true hero of Uganda and Africa. The struggle for our rights, for equality and justice will continue. Gakyali Mabaga!”
