A noticeable shift toward healthier living is taking shape among senior government officials in Uganda, with Water and Environment Minister Sam Cheptoris emerging as the latest example after undergoing a remarkable body transformation.
The 76-year-old minister has reportedly cut his weight from 118 kilogrammes to around 70 kilogrammes, losing 48 kilogrammes in the process.
His journey, as reported by Daily Monitor, follows years of a lifestyle he now admits was dominated by indulgence in rich foods and regular alcohol intake.
Cheptoris openly acknowledged that his eating habits, particularly his fondness for meat-heavy meals, contributed significantly to his weight gain.
“I do not know how many chickens have died in my compound over more than 10 years,” he said, illustrating the extent of his previous diet.
Alongside his eating habits, the minister also pointed to frequent consumption of alcoholic drinks—including wine, Amarula and Baileys—as part of a routine that gradually affected his health.
Over time, he developed complications such as high blood pressure and acid reflux.
He has since looked back at that period with a touch of humour, recalling that his movement once resembled that of “a hippopotamus,” a vivid description of his physical state before the transformation.
The turning point came when the health risks became too serious to ignore.
Cheptoris, who months ago announced his retirement from politics after his current term, then made deliberate changes, including adjusting his diet, seeking medical care, and embracing a healthier living environment—steps that ultimately led to his significant weight loss.
His transformation reflects a broader awareness within President Yoweri Museveni’s administration, where more leaders are taking active steps to address lifestyle-related health challenges.
Weeks ago, Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze appeared slim, worrying his followers some of whom thought he was sick and began wishing him a quick recovery. Minister Tumwebaze has since spoken about his health condition after his sudden slim appearance sparked sickness rumors, as reported Here.
Attaining slim sizes as part of a weight loss journey involves doing exercises and following a diet prescription. Recently, President Yoweri Museveni revealed that he had injured his back while doing pushups. The president also enjoys interesting meals, prepared by a team that includes about 90 cooks.
