Dan Rweiburingi, the man at the center of the alleged shooting involving junior labour minister Mwesigwa Rukutana in Ntungamo has undergone an operation, Naomi Kabasharira has said.
In the violence that ensued in Rubaare Sub County, Rushenyi County in Ntungamo District on September 05, Rweiburingi and Juma Kahitani.
Rweiburingi, a 2016 Rushenyi County contestant against Rukutana, was Kabasharira’s Rubaare Sub County campaign coordinator.
According to Kabasharira, a former Ntungamo Woman MP, “Rweiburingi is currently undergoing treatment after a successful brain surgery.”
According to results from the Rushenyi NRM primary election, Kabasharira polled 24,006 against Rukutana’s 23,996 votes.
Polling didn’t happen in the 41 villages of Rubaare Sub County on September 04 because there were no registers. Voting was pushed to the following day.
Rukutana’s supporters dispute the results as rigged, especially given the margin between the minister and his rival.
In a statement on the violence, Kabasharira invited Rukutana and others who had not supported her bid to join hands with her for Rushenyi’s development.
“We stand for unity and togetherness in Rushenyi and I call up on all the people of Rushenyi to join hands with me and work together as a team for the betterment of our constituency,” said Kabasharira.
“I look forward to working with everyone as a team to advance issues of importance to Rushenyi people.”
