Candidates who sat their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in 2024 performed better that the previous sitting (of the year 2023), officials from the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) informed Janet Museveni, the first lady, and Minister of Education and Sports, as they briefed her on performance as indicated in PLE 2024 results.
A total of 798,771 candidates registered for the 2024 examination, a 6.6 per cent increase in candidature, compared to 749, 254 in 2023.
After months of waiting for their results, these nearly 800,000 candidates will have their results released this week after Uneb officials briefed Minister Janet Museveni at State House Nakasero in Kampala.
The team from Uganda National Examinations Board, which briefed Janet Museveni and other Ministry of Education and Sports top officials on the performance posted by PLE 2024 candidates, was led by Uneb chairperson Prof Celestino Obua.
After the meeting, Uneb spokesperson Jennifer Kalule-Musamba announced the PLE 2024 results release date, ending days of speculation on when the board and ministry would release the results from examinations administered last year under the theme: Embracing security and holistic assessment of learners in a dynamic environment.
“The Minister for Education and Sports Mama Janet K. Museveni will officially release the results of the 2024 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 at State House Nakasero,” Kalule-Musamba announced.
She also gave a hint on the performance, revealing that Uneb Executive Secretary and Executive Director Dan N Odongo had told Minister Janet Museveni that there had been general improvement in performance.
“During the briefing, UNEB ED, Mr. Dan N. Odongo revealed that overall, the performance of candidates in 2024 is better than that of 2023,” Kalule-Musamba noted.
