A Ugandan university lecturer was murdered by suspected kidnappers and his body dumped in Kenkombe in Mbarara. Colleagues and students were left in shock after learning of the death of James Katumba who taught at Bishop Stuart University based in Mbarara City.
It is said that James Katumba had boarded a vehicle, some now suspect to have been operated by robbers who kidnapped him.
His family members say that he left home at about 6:30am on Saturday, June 07, 2025, in Kinoni Town Council of Rwampara District.
About 20 minutes later, James Katumba started calling family members whom he was asking for Shs3m.
On the morning of Sunday, June 08, 2025, the body of James Katumba was found lying lifeless in Kenkombe in Mbarara.
James Katumba also taught at Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) in Bushenyi as well as at Metropolitan International University (MIU) in Mbarara.
Lecturers and students at Bishop Stuart University and other institutions where Katumba taught have called on police to expedite investigations into the murder and bring the culprits to book.

During a requiem service at Bishop Stuart University on Monday, June 10, BSU vice chancellor Prof John Mugisha paid tribute to Katumba for his contribution in teaching agriculture and research, as well as for walking the talk by engaging in and spearheading innovations and value addition.
