Proscovia Salaamu Musumba has alleged that it is poison and witchcraft killing some leaders whose lives end mysteriously or in accidents in Busoga and across the country.
A top leader in the newly formed People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party – and formerly in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) – Salaamu Musumba spoke at Boma Grounds in Kamuli where the District Council held a special sitting to honour the late LC5 Chairperson Charles Maxwell Mugudde Kuwembula.
Kuwembula died in an accident, as reported Here.
As with most sudden deaths, politicians and locals in the region have been debating the cause of the accident that claimed the life of Kuwembula.
The special session presided over by Kamuli Council’s deputy speaker Victoria Apiri was attended by incumbent and former district leaders, senior government officials led by deputy prime minister Rebecca Kadaga, and officials from Busoga Kingdom.
Councilors paid tribute to Kuwembula for his commitment to serve the people of Kamuli, with some proposing that the Kamuli District Council Hall be named after him in honour of his service.
The councillors also complained about the local government limiting their powers to implement and supervise government programs, and to be able to prevent theft of funds that should be benefitting communities.
When it was her time to speak, Salaamu Musumba did not mince her words in attributing sudden deaths in accidents and other mysterious ways to witchcraft and poisoning.
Salaamu Musumba herself previously served as the Kamuli District Chairperson.
“It is poison and witchcraft killing our leaders,” she said, adding that the job of LCV chairperson was “not worth dying for.”
“Very soon,” she threatened, “I will reveal those behind these sudden deaths.”
She also said that witchcraft and traditional poison had also affected business in Kamuli.
“People can’t freely do business in Kamuli anymore. Many politicians no longer eat in Kamuli restaurants,” she further said.
“If I am to eat in any restaurant in Kamuli, I go straight to the kitchen and serve myself.”
She had earlier made the same threats at a local radio station where she listed some alleged victims of witchcraft or poisoning as Nabwigulu Sub-county NRM chairperson Charles Mugaya, Robert Namiti, and Bugabula South MP aspirant Patricia Katagwa.
“To prevent more deaths, I am ready to name and shame the architects of poison in Kamuli on Sunday during the burial of my brother Kuwembula,” she was quoted as issuing threats.
Salaamu Musumba has previously revealed that she was poisoned and that the poison had made her lose her hair.
Allegations of poisoning of government officials and politicians are not uncommon. When former speaker Jacob Oulanyah died in 2022, allegations of poisoning were thrown around during debates on his cause of death, as reported Here, There and Over There.
A former army general previously spoke about the fear of being poisoned in cabinet, high command meetings and parliament, as reported Here.
